Why True AGI Requires Flesh, Bone, and Boneheaded Mistakes
Why True AGI Requires Flesh, Bone, and Boneheaded Mistakes The prevailing dogma in artificial intelligence assumes that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is fundamentally an issue of compute, parameters, and tokens. The assumption goes that if you scrape enough human-generated text, feed it through enough parallelized clusters, and let it generate high-dimensional probability distributions, a genuine mind will eventually precipitate out of the matrix. As an engineer and a father, I don't buy it. Intelligence is not a two-dimensional process flattened across server racks. It exists in three dimensions of physical space and unfolds across continuous, non-negotiable time. Real cognition cannot be scraped from a database; it must be hammered out against the unyielding constraints of physical reality. The Anatomy of an Emergent Mind We tend to measure intelligence by its high-level outputs: language, mathematics, logic, synthesis. But in nature, high-level cognition...
